General description

We will take a bicycle ride through several neighborhoods of Buenos Aires in order to meet the women who changed the course of Argentine history, their monuments, neighborhoods or places that marked their lives and through them understand the process of female empowerment and current struggles that cross transversally to this country. Come and enjoy their monuments but above all the stories, anecdotes, struggles, real lives, difficulties and triumphs of empowered women (Military, writers, singers, sculptors and first ladies) that today are paradigms of the Argentine society and some, recognized worldwide for their achievements.

Main points of the tour:

  • General San Martin Monument at San Martin Square.

This is our meeting point, where we will try the bicycles and helmets. Nobody doubts who the father of the country is yet nobody remembers who the mother of the country was, the woman who fought hand-to-hand with Generals and soldiers in the quest for Argentine independence; and also, the story behind the black community of Argentina.

  • Malvinas Soldiers Memorial.

Wars have always been something terrible and so silence is. We will tell you everything about The Malvinas War and the story of female veterans who actively participated in the war as well as the reasons for their subsequent invisibility.

  • Corina Kavanagh – Holy Sacrament Church.

We will take a look at what it was in 1936 “the tallest building in South America” which was built by a woman who easily gave rise to feelings of envy and resentment in Buenos Aires society. We will know the history of her life and the rumors that surround the first owner of this amazing skyscraper and one of the most beautiful churches in the city.

  • Juana Azurduy Monument.

Who was the most important female captain of South America? At this stop we will introduce you Juana Azurduy, we will be happy to tell you about her incredible life, the battles in which she was involved and why she was called “the amazon of freedom”. Enjoy the beautiful view of the city at her colossal monument.

  • Puerto Madero – Woman´s Bridge – Silos.

We are going to pedal through the newest and most expensive neighborhood in the city and one of the most visited by porteños and tourists until arriving at the Woman´s Bridge, to know the history of this feminist neighborhood as well as the names and achievements of some incredible women in history and current leaders, squares named after them and her monuments. We will also see the new feminist intervention of an American female artist in historical silos.

  • Luciana Aymar & Gabriela Sabatini Monuments.

Luciana Aymar was chosen as "Legend of hockey" by The International Hockey Federation and one of the most important athletes in Argentine history. Gabriela Sabatini is the most important Argentine tennis player in history who climbed to number 3 worldwide. Both women already have their monuments among the most outstanding athletes of The “Walk of Glory”.

  • The Nereids Fountain.

Here we will have the chance to admire this amazing marble sculpture which is the most beautiful fountain in our city. Created by the famous sculptress Lola Mora whose life and career were equally fascinating. It is worth knowing everything!

  • Women´s Old Prison.

At this stop we will take a break to get to know this historic building and discover some of the women who were imprisoned here. At the same place, we will have the chance to know the most famous singer who changed Argentine folk music: Mercedes Sosa, her music and voice made people hail her as: "The voice of the voiceless ones" or “the voice of Latin America”.
